Session

Connecting with Community

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM

An Asset-Based Approach

An asset-based approach is focused on possibilities and potential, rather than needs and barriers. When we lead from a place of care and radical reimagination, we can find opportunities to transform our community. Join us as we discuss how to identify the diverse strengths that students possess and to emphasize the value that they bring to our college community.

Dr. Emerald Templeton is an equity-minded scholar-practitioner with expertise in organizational leadership, counseling and student affairs, and educational partnerships. Her work is rooted in a deep care and compassion for, and commitment to marginalized individuals navigating education.

She currently serves as an administrator over educational partnerships at a California Community College where she focuses on strategic programming to support success for in-transition and hyper-marginalized students. Her research and writing ventures are emerging in two areas: the logics of valuing diversity and Black Women in higher education.
