Zines as Alternative Writing Assignments: The How

Continuing the conversation around zines, this session will provide the opportunity to brainstorm where and how zines can fit into faculty courses. Attendees are encouraged to put on their creative thinking caps and imagine beyond the standard writing assignment. Attendees should bring course syllabi or course descriptions for this very hands-on session.

Leading by Lasso

This session will analyze coaching and leadership through the lens of the Apple TV show Ted Lasso. Participants will engage in a rich discussion about various leadership concepts that can be extracted by reviewing scenes and quotes from the television show. Additionally, participants will have an opportunity to reflect on their own leadership style and how they can further grow connections with their students, peers, and administrators.

Entrepreneurial Mindset Jump START!

BCEx, Broward College Entrepreneurship Experience, has become a vibrant community of starters here at BC. This workshop will introduce participants to the BCEx community, key practices, and the best way to get engaged or share opportunities with others. This interactive workshop will act as a JUMP START into the entrepreneurial mindset at the heart of BCEx.

Broward UP: Curriculum Outlook & Student Success

This session will provide a detailed overview of the expanding Broward UP Case Management model, including how participants are served while progressing through their respective programs. In addition, it will highlight current course offerings and how they are grouped to maximize training support, as well as new course development that will offer non-credit to credit conversion for simple articulation into Broward College.

Improving Student Retention with Credit-by-Exam

How important is it at the College to improve any of the following: increased enrollment, retention, and completion, educational opportunity, equity, inclusion, and career success? Credit-by-exam and other types of credit for prior learning options can do all this and more. Credit-by-Exam is underutilized and unfamiliar to many. The benefits of using Credit-by-Exam include having a positive impact on many of the College’s metrics and goals including recruitment, retention, and completion.

In this session, participants will gain an overview of assessment and how to use the results to close the loop for continuous improvement in both academic and non-academic units.
