Billy Jones

Dr. Billy Jones is an Associate Professor of English at Broward College’s South Campus, where he teaches in English Composition, African American Literature, and other specialty courses. He serves as Faculty Coordinator for the Center for Teaching Excellence & Learning (CTEL), and Faculty Coordinator for the Pre-college Summer Leadership Institute for minority high school males. For 25 years, Dr. Jones has been recognized for teaching, leadership, and writing excellence. He has served in various academic and administrative roles in secondary and post-secondary institutions in Florida. He is the recipient of the 2018 Professor of the Year Award for South Campus, and the 2021 Honorary Member Award from the South Florida Writers Association. His most recent research focus is a mixed methods study that explores the experiences of students who complete action research projects in English Composition courses.

Sophia Galvin

Sophia Galvin has over twenty years of Human Resources functional experience with ten of those years in leadership roles within healthcare, retail and higher education. Ms. Galvin serves as the head of Talent (Human Resources) and is responsible for the overall planning, operation, and evaluation of the College’s Talent functions including Attraction, Selection and Retention, Culture and Employee Engagement, Employee and Labor Relations, Compensation and Classification, Benefits and Wellness, as well as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategies. Ms. Galvin has served many business and civic organizations including the board of directors for Goodwill Industries of South Florida, HR committee for the Boys and Girls Club Broward County, the board of directors for Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade, vice-chair for the Florida State Minority Development Council, and MED Week chair for the Minority Business Development Agency.

Rudy Jean Bart

Rudy Jean-Bart is a native of Miami, FL.  He currently serves as the Associate Dean of Criminal Justice at Broward College.  Prior to being an associate dean, Jean-Bart served as an Assistant Professor of History at Broward College’s South Campus where he taught American History and African American History.  Rudy’s Broward College journey began in January of 2009, as an adjunct professor at Central Campus.  Jean-Bart soon became the 2009-2010 Central Campus Adjunct Professor of the Year.  In 2019, he was awarded the Gaddis Corporation Endowed Teaching Chair.  He currently serves as the Chair of Broward College’s Advisory Council for the Advancement of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ACADEI).

Wanda Robinson

Wanda Robinson is a Mentoring Programs Administrator in the Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Equity and Diversity Department. For the past 16 years she has led the districts mentoring program initiatives by providing support to existing programs and assisting schools and community stakeholders in mentor program development, recruitment and capacity building.

Ms. Robinson chairs the Children’s Services Council Mentoring Committee and manages the Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders and 5000 Role Models of Excellence district mentoring programs as well a variety of other school based mentoring programs. She is currently leading the District’s Mentoring Across Broward initiatives which focus on increasing student access to mentors and effective mentoring programs.

Mariah Reed

Mariah Reed directs plays and teaches voice and acting classes at Broward College where she is a tenured theatre faculty member and the recipient of three Endowed Teaching Chair awards. One of Mariah’s assignments brought her to Florida where she founded two Equity theatre companies (the New River Repertory and The Drama Center). She continues to act professionally while sharing with students what she has learned through her educational experiences as well as her hands-on adventures as a working actress in film, television and live theatre. Mariah has also written several musicals and plays that have been produced in South Florida to much acclaim. In her free time, Mariah is a voice and dialect coach for professional actors, film and television projects, and professional theatre presentations.

Ed Luna is the Senior Multimedia Design Specialist with CTEL. Ed has a Masters in Education Technology and a Bachelors in Marketing and Communication from Central Connecticut State University. Ed has the privilege of working with, assisting, documenting, recording, scripting, creating, editing, and publishing valuable campus contributions made by the amazing staff, students and faculty of Seahawk Nation and community partners. Ed regularly volunteers for initiatives organized through Broward Up and is a board member and volunteer with many other organizations throughout the Great Fort Lauderdale area. Ed Luna is also a 10 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps (USMC, USMCR).

Kirk Brown

Kirk Brown is the Chief Executive Officer at HANDY, Inc. in Broward County. He has twenty-five years of experience working with economically disadvantaged families.  Mr. Brown helped to guide the development of the HANDY’s program and actively recruited youth, community partners, donors and policy personnel to become involve in the mission of educating, empowering and embracing communities of need.

Mr. Brown has served on the National Governor’s Policy Academy, taught as a Professor of Social Work at FSU, was the Statewide  Director of Independent Living for DCF, was also Policy and Performance Analyst with DEO and the Lead Behavioral Management personnel with Big Bend Community Based Care.  He enjoys creating community partnerships in order to secure more options in employment, education, mental health and housing for youth and relative care families.
